Passion Projects

Learning by doing - through freelancing and beyond

Below is a brief selection of client projects that I designed during my time as a freelance designer. I specifically chose three pieces that demonstrate different styles, tools, techniques, and user problems I tried to solve through each design.

By working on each project, I have learned different ways to approach a variety of user frustrations, but most importantly each project has taught me how to communicate with different clients about their users’ varied needs, and ultimately how to problem-solve together during the design process.

Renos Design

Renos is a start-up that offers users a catalogue of detailed 3D furniture models for free. The goal is to make it easier for interior designers and furniture vendors to showcase their products, and to convert those initial points of interest into successful sales. Renos is both a website and a web application, with the former providing a marketplace experience for furniture vendors and buyers, and the latter being an application that allows interior designers to upload, edit, and export their own 3D models or to use the models from our existing cloud library.

The inspiration for our product came from two problems we observed within the interior design and furnishing space: 1) interior designers found it time-consuming to meticulously create and export each 3D furniture model for their projects, and 2) furniture vendors and buyers looking for a way to better view and display furniture without relying on visiting stores in person, or online videos and images. Together with a team of talented, engineers, designers, and product managers, we created a visually simplistic, intuitive, and innovative product that is ready to hit the market running.

PHICA

PHICA Conseil is a French business consulting firm based out of Paris, France. During the peak of COVID-19 and mandatory home quarantine, my client - as with many other small business entrepreneurs - decided to move his business online, adopting a model of providing consulting services online rather than in person through communication tools such as Zoom and Loom. As someone without prior design knowledge, my client wanted a website that looked professional with a simple colour palette, and he also wanted a website that would not be daunting to his clientele that was mostly older and not as comfortable with technology and online consulting. We decided to create a clean website layout with a simple colour palette of black and white accented with blue dots. Each section of the website was distinct, with clear bullet-pointed descriptions and clear CTAs.

Prestige d’Ebène

Prestige d’Ebène is a woman-led small business based out of Nigeria, Africa that provides local produce farmers with business connections in North America, in order to facilitate the importing of these organic goods to the North American market. Together we identified two main target audiences: local farmers based in Nigeria and produce importers based in North America, and thus the client wanted a website that would accomplish two things: 1) introduce her business and 2) provide a visual catalogue that would showcase her products and services. The client also specified she wanted the website to be visually compelling with deep, rich tones of gold and navy, while still maintaining a clean and simple aesthetic.
